My friend's father used to tap random trees along a wooded, secondary road, gathering only enough sap for their own use. She and I took dance lessons together, and when it was her father's turn to drive us to town, we would always stop and check his tin buckets. I was always surprised at the sweetness of the sap, expecting it, I suppose, to taste more like balsam. :-) Sounds like a fun day out!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8842852562944962435.post-19760264607621801932010-03-09T21:45:43.409-05:002010-03-09T21:45:43.409-05:00So will this be another product to add to the kill...So will this be another product to add to the killer fudge line?jack-of-all-thumbshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02890408896745938386noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8842852562944962435.post-9286371512946424482010-03-08T16:59:51.693-05:002010-03-08T16:59:51.693-05:00It does sound a special thing to do.

We're a little smaller scale I think, with glass jars. Last year we boiled over a fire, this year we're waiting for our fire pit to thaw out, it was covered in a few feet of snow at the beginning of the season. I'll make at least one batch of kettle syrup, the smokiness is perfect for bacon & ham.

We haven't eaten any of our finished syrup yet, must make pancakes soon.Chiot's Runhttp://www.chiotsrun.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8842852562944962435.post-55843113547207679072010-03-07T01:24:25.715-05:002010-03-07T01:24:25.715-05:00Wonderful photos!
