For the love of Fire

For all of you who crave the crackle and glow of a fire on a cold winter night, feet propped on the hearth, sipping your favorite beverage and thinking "deep thoughts", here is a post that takes building that fire to the level of Art. The Fire Fiddler by Gene Logsdon. Check it out!

I do miss that. I have fireplace in my house but I never use it. It sucks the heat out of the house. In the house I grew up in, we had a wood stove that helped heat the house. My dad only set the thermostat at 55 so we lived around the wood stove where it was warm. I learned how to start the stove in the morning if it had gone out (probably about half the time).

Now when I'm on camping trips, people rely on me when for the fire when it is hard to start (raining). It is rare when it takes more than one match for me to start a fire. Or course now my friends all take firestarters, so I never have to try much. But we all love playing with the fire as it goes down and trying to get more heat from it. It is one of the joys of camping.
