Fall is coming!

It's been chilly here the past few mornings. It was in the 40's this morning when I went out to do the chores. Fall is coming. I posted a bit about that over at NDIN. The chill has certianly put some hurry up in my life.

Besides the chill and the crops changing color, there is another thing to remind me that Fall is here and Winter is coming. School! School started for us last week and we have been adjusting to the new schedule. Even though the kids are quite independent in their school work, it still takes up about half my day. Finding time to get through all the fall projects and keep the kids moving is sometimes a challenge.

One new thing this year has been a visit from the Music Man. Band is an option this year and JJ wanted to get a jump on things. She has started the flute. RR, not to be left out, opted for the trumpet. An instructor is still being sought. Right now we are using the 'think method' with a little guidance from me (I did play the trumpet for a few years as a child) and CC (who played the flute and french horn). These two new instruments added to the Strumsticks and ukuleles they already play for choir has increased the noise level in the neighborhood considerably. I don't know if it is joyful yet, but it is a lot of noise.

What fun! :) I look forward to this time of year, especially after having so much hot and humid weather this summer. We're into a week of nearly perfect days -- high 60's - low 70's daytime, clear air, light breeze, lots of sun...and much cooler night temps, perfect for sleep.

We journeyed from Nova Scotia to New Brunswick this past weekend and noted the slightest hint of autumn hues among some of the hardwoods. It won't be long.

Priceless photo.

Potential to replace James Pankow and Lee Loughnane.

OK. So I'm a lowbrow.

Trombone was one of the insturments I expected. That would have been cool. We did spend a long time looking at the cello (I thought of the Squirrel Nut Zippers or They Might Be Giants, but I hope the kids don't turn to me for musical guidance. That could lead to really strange places.) I really expected the next Mickey Hart since RR seems to bang on everything, all the time. It is a long road from here to skilled. We'll see what happens.
