It was - 14 deg F when I went out this morning. Fortunately we didn't have as much wind as they predicted. The windchill only got down to -22 deg F. In the barn it was a comfortable 2 deg above 0. All the critters had a fine coat of frost on their coats from all the steamy breath. Other than that everyone came through without a problem.
I heard crowing and general chicken chatter after the sun came up, but I haven't gone to roust them out yet. Didn't want to disturb their warmth.

I'm glad your animals are safe... It sure is cold here!
Alan, I think if you get through this winter, you can get through anything. Cute pics, it's been a long while since I have seen stock with frost in their hair.
"Frosted ponys" immediately made me think of Blood, Sweat & Tears' song "Spinning Wheel". Of course you remember.
What goes up must come down,
spinning wheel got to go round,
Talking about your troubles it's a crying sin,
Ride a painted (frosted?) pony
Let the spinning wheel spin...
Okay, okay. Not enough caffeine here or something. Maybe it's the COLD! Glad your critters are toasty. :-)
I've mentioned you and Roberts Roost on ESTHER IN THE GARDEN (21st January 2009).
I hope it's ok. If not, I'll change it.
Esther
I am quite sure that the camel would run away if the temps got that low! Frosted Ponies is the perfect post title!
I've enjoyed hearing of your new little addition...so sweet!
