The rewards of democracy

The polls are closed, the votes counted, and the winning name for our wee pony is...

Brigid

She is thrilled to have a name at last. Thank You for participating in the process. Thanks also to those who sent in other names. There were some great ones, and we are saving them for future naming events. If all goes well, Brigid should be gifting us with another pony in March. More naming fun.

About a month ago this blog was awarded the prestigious Arte y Pico Award by Kate from The Manic Gardener. You will notice that it is now proudly displayed in the side bar with all the other important stuff. Along with the award came the opportunity to select five blogs that I felt were deserving because of their contributions to the "blogging community." After considerable thought I've selected five from a host of deserving blogs. First the RULES.

THE RULES:
1. Choose 5 blogs you consider deserving of this award for their creativity, design, interesting material, and contribution to the blogging community, regardless of the language.

2. Each award should have the name of the author and a link to his/her blog to be visited by everyone.

3. Each award winner should show the award and put the name and link to the blog that presented him/her with the award.

4. The award winner and the one who has given the award should show the Arte y Pico blog so everyone will know the origin of this award. Translated, it means "the peak of art."

5. Show these rules.

And now, without further gilding the lily and with much ado, the award goes to...

Self-Sufficient Steward
For his interesting mix of garden, self-sufficiency, and politics. And for giving me hope that if I keep picking away at my projects here eventually we will have the place we dream of.

On the way to Critter Farm...
For making me laugh with her charming stories about her donkeys and chickens, and her bravery being a surrogate mom to a bunch of crazy critters.

The Inadvertent Farmer
For her brilliant photos, camel stories, and making me LOL.

The Examined Life
For thought provoking conversations and for reminding me that there is more to life than farming.

Hedgewizard's Diary
For wittily twisted, slightly irreverent, British view of the garden, life, and everything.

Check them out! They are all great.

Congratulations on the award. I think that it is very much deserved.

Yeah for Brigid, I'm certain that she is happy with her name. Of course, that's because I liked it best.

I am honored to be selected by you for the Arte y Pico Award. However, I don't think that you needed me or anyone to remind you that there is more to life than farming. You were already there. I find your blog to be full of thoughtul and interesting insights into life, often reflected through your connection to the land. I will give it some thought and make my selections. Thank you.

Oh, Alan, I totally suck. I was here yesterday, saw (and was amazed by) this lovely award, tried to comment, had technical difficulties and had to reboot. I then forgot to come back and thank you for the award. I did however save the comment I was trying to post yesterday and will now paste it in:
"Hey Alan - this is very cool. I don't know, I feel more than the usual bit of humility and embarrassment receiving such high praise from you. What's up with that? :-) Your blog is awesome and informative and I tell silly stories about donkeys and chickens. Thank you very much!"

Congrats to you on YOUR award. :-)

Oh Alan, well done! This is what makes these awards worthwhile--seeing the blogs other people choose, discovering new ones, even--Oh my gawd!--some not in Blotanical! I've already been checking them out, and it's no surprise to find them thoughtful, funny, and humane. Oh--and BTW--that's a fine-looking award up in your side-bar.
